Moonwax is a music ranking app for people who take their taste seriously.
What is Moonwax?
Moonwax is a social music ranking platform where you build definitive ranked lists of your favorite albums, songs, and artists. Instead of giving star ratings, Moonwax uses a head-to-head comparison method — you compare two items directly and decide which you prefer, and the app figures out the ranking automatically using binary search.
The result is a precise, personal ranking of everything you've ever listened to — not just a vague 4-star rating, but a real ordered list.
How song and album rankings work
When you add a new album or song, Moonwax places it into your list by asking a series of comparisons: "Do you prefer this or that?" Using binary search, it only needs ~7 comparisons to place an item in a list of 100.
Once you've ranked at least 5 items, Moonwax converts your rankings into a 1–10 personal score for each item, distributed across your list so your #1 always scores 10.0 and your last always scores 1.0.
Community scores
Every album, song, and artist on Moonwax has a community score based on how all users have ranked it relative to their own lists. The score accounts for list size — a #1 in a list of 50 carries more weight than a #1 in a list of 3.
The Charts page shows the top-ranked albums and songs across the entire Moonwax community, updated in real time.
Import from Spotify
If you already have a music library on Spotify, you can import your saved albums or playlists directly into Moonwax and rank them all in one session.
Social features
Follow friends and see what they're ranking in your feed. Compare your rankings head-to-head with anyone on the platform. Discover new music from people with similar taste via the Discover page.
Music database
Moonwax is powered by MusicBrainz, the world's largest open music encyclopedia, with over 2 million albums and 30 million songs. Any album or song ever released is rankable on Moonwax.
